Ready for the leaves to drop? It’s that time of year again. Well, we know it’s going to happen sooner or later, and the City of Rochester has us covered when it comes to its 2018 Fall Leaf Pick Up Schedule.

Looking to see when your neighborhood, or even better yet, your street is on for Pick Up? Check out the City’s website here and you’ll be able to put in your address for an even closer look.

As always, if you have questions about the 2018 Loose Leaf Collection process, feel free to give 311 a call or you can reference the Loose Leaf Collection FAQs page.

Lastly, if you don’t have any of your own leaves to rake up this year and DO want to get involved, the Washington Square Park Community Association, C4, and various other downtown neighborhood organizations will be doing a Mini Clean Sweep on Saturday, November 10th. Please join us as we help clean up Manhattan Square Park, now known as MLK Jr. Memorial Park in downtown. More details coming soon on the Rochesteriat.

Buckingham Properties presents Movies With a Downtown View 2017: 5 Reasons You Don't Want to Miss

In just under one month, our 4th annual Movies with a Downtown View presented by Buckingham Properties will be taking over the park formerly known as Manhattan Square Park (MLK Jr. Memorial Park, that is). In case you missed it in the last 3 years, here are 5 reasons why you'll want to go to Movies with a Downtown View on July 14th and August 18th:

1. The Experience

the Rochesteriat

the Rochesteriat

How often do you spend a few hours in a park, on a blanket with friends or family, hanging out and enjoying downtown? Oh you don't do this often? Why not do this while enjoying a movie under the stars with the cityscape as your backdrop?

2. Be a Foodie

The Rochesteriat

The Rochesteriat

Pack a fancy picnic or have cash ready to purchase food there. We'll have 2 food trucks at each event and beer for purchase from Roc Brewing. Keep an eye on the website for info on who else will be joining us!

3. It's FREE

These movie nights are free! That means there's no charge to get in... what else do we need to say?!

4. There might be giveaways

Okay, okay, we shouldn't say "might be", because there will be giveaways. In the past 3 years, we've given away several Round-Trips on the Official Airline of the MWADV, Jetblue Airways, and tons of local goods. Better yet, there's no cost for entering to win!

5. The Movies

We're going with recent films this year, one with a NASA flair and one with an international base. Both are exciting and fun films, so check out the trailers below:

July 14th - Hidden Figures

AUGUST UPDATE - Hidden Figures:

While our original plan was to show Hunt for the Wilderpeople on August 18th, our plans have changed. Since we were unable to show Hidden Figures in July, we will be showing it in August! We will keep Hunt for the Wilderpeople as a possibility for next year, because well, it looks quite fun.

This year we are again partnering with our favorite downtown movie theatre The Little Theatre to produce these events. Last year's inaugural event was a huge success and we cannot wait to fill this park again with people. Will you join us?

For those of you who missed the event last year, take a peek inside here.

MY THING launched Wednesday night and will be on display during Friday on the Fringe in Martin Luther King Jr. Park  (a.k.a. Manhattan Square Park) and then it will move to the Spiegelgarden for the remainder of Fringe.

First, have your photo taken (free!), write on the photo what your "thing" is (like what you do or what you love), and then watch as Eric turns it into art. You'll even receive a copy of the photo to keep.

Eric-working Eric Working Fringe is encouraging you to share your photo on social media and tag it #myfringething!

URBAN LIFE ||

Movies with a Downtown View

In case you missed it - It was a beautiful summer evening Friday July 25th, 2014, and the Rochesteriat was honored to be involved with the first-ever production of Movies with a Downtown View. Presented by Buckingham Properties & the Rochester Area Community Foundation and situated in the city park formerly known as Manhattan Square Park (now: MLK Jr. Memorial Park), this first-time event drew over 250 attendees as we gave out hundreds of dollars of trivia prizes and raffles, including a set of Roundtrip tickets on JetBlue Airways, a package prize that included a $50 gift card to Amore by Wegmans and movie passes to The Little Theatre (a co-producer of the event), and much more. There was even FREE white cheddar popcorn for all attendees courtesy of Frito Lay!

While the event didn't officially start until 7pm, we were blown away by the fact that people started showing up at 6:10pm with blankets and picnics, just to hang out! Here are some early shots of the park lawn, well before the movie screen was even set up as well as some other shots of what the evening looked like.

People arriving early Attendees knew what they were doing as they brought out their blankets, pillows, picnics, lawn chairs, and a general sense of enjoying the downtown scenery. IMG_3843

In the future, we'll make sure to tell people to get there early as the space filled up quickly!

Amore-Gelato We were so proud to be the first event ever for the brand new Amore by Wegmans Gelato Cart, what a HUGE success! And why wouldn't it be, thanks to Amore Restaurant Manager Jigmed Latshang (left) and Krissy Hennessy (center), they handed out nearly 300 FREE sweet treats for the entire crowd. That's us to the right, Stefanie & Jason Schwingle of the Rochesteriat, getting a taste of the delicious gelato.

We also send a HUGE thanks to our co-producers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this first event a true success.

In case you're on the fence about coming to the next event on Friday, August 15th, here are a few other pics that will hopefully seal the deal for you. We thank our friend Stephen Reardon of SSR Photography for taking such incredible photos of the evening!

CULTURE ||

We are thrilled to finally announce a huge collaborative planning effort we've been a part of the last several months:

Buckingham Properties & Rochester Area Community Foundation Present:

Movies with a Downtown View Image

We know that downtown is growing and, needless to say, we love it! We also know that it's not just the huge developments that will reestablish this as a great city, it's the small businesses, corner stores, entrepreneurs, events and more that really bring the city alive.

So, this summer JOIN US in Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park for an unforgettable experience: Movies with a Downtown View. Bring a blanket, friends, and/or a date, and enjoy a movie with the cityscape as your backdrop.

Movies-with-a-downtown-view Come hungry and bring some cash - support some of our city's great food trucks and one of our favorite local breweries - or bring your own picnic! We will also be giving away bags of White Cheddar popcorn to the first 250 movie-goers, courtesy of Frito Lay, so make sure to come early.

This has been a collaboration between multiple organizations within our city and includes The Little Theatre, the Washington Square Park Neighborhood Association (WSPNA), the City of Rochester, and of course our generous sponsors.

Don't just come early for the popcorn, but for the TRIVIA! We will be hosting trivia prior to the event with our friends over at Rochester Brainery! Prizes for the winners include class vouchers to Rochester Brainery, tickets to Dryden Theatre, surprises from Hart's Grocers, and more!

Walk, bike, skateboard, or drive if you have to - but whatever you do, come down and enjoy a movie with us under the lights and stars of our city. Be a part of our changing Center City!
